Over 25% of counterfeits seized by customs are foodstuffs

China is still the main responsible of the major of the products seized, with 73%.

Statistics show that almost 25% of the products are foodstuffs, while 43% were products of daily use, such as body care, medicines and household goods, which means that Ip rightholders are not only the only one harmed, but also consumers and, what is more serious, their health.

In 79 % of the procedures started by customs, the goods were destroyed. 

Customs’ interventions continue to be one of the best tools that the European legislator has made available to rightsholders and professionals dedicated to their defense to protect IP rights.
